I like the country life. I really enjoy living in our small town, which still counts to a countrified area. I'm quite happy here.
But if I'd pass my exams, I'll be forced to move to a city. There are more job prospects than in the country.
There's just one disadvantage in it: The ever-increasing overpopulation in cities, develops a higher unemployment rate.
But in many cases you must pull forward living in a city to living in the country, because there are lots of chances. Beginning with cultural institutions to mounds of foreign embassy buildings, which importance are going up by time. Quite often the country life turns into city life. Sometimes danger by lack of spaces takes place.
For example Vorarlberg: On only 11 percents of the area there are 80 percents of the population. What's that? I'm asking you. An agrarian country, or a ghetto, for industrial business?
Now, I'd like to state some points of view, which shows in what a hurly-burly of urban time of space we're living.
Some might say, that the catchwords of the spirit of the times like "individualism" and "distraditionalism" characterize living in a city today. I mean they signalize much more the frightness, that the population could lose all conjunctures.
You'll know the apocalyptical diagnoses in professional matter of fastness, whether of the sociologist Gerhard Schulze or the theorist Vittorio M. Lampugnano, who sees the cities running down to anarchist dump - themselves destroying and completely beside of solution.
But still cites are a concurrence and antagonism of cultural facts. The traces of mysteries and uniqueness are still shown in the areas of social arrogance and civil smugness. Just like the old and latest poverty in the old-established persistence and new strangeness - in the sub-cultural and peripheral areas.
Cities were ever the center of spatial prescribing of socials and sense of time. Different social intentions, arising from the times, and therewith also different institutional power and restriction and the answers of the people therefore, built the respective cultures and municipal areas.
"Area and Time" - this combination was and is still a big theme. The look was focused on the building area, but not to the people living there and their story, which would be destroyed faster and faster in form of unmerciful laws of the economy.
Laws, which accorded to transnational intentions in a investment trust in the 20th century and in a different dimensions which mixed and decided moving and fastness of traditions of city areas.
Old areas die or have conflicts with others. New cities are built - until towns will be area of actions of virtual prerequisites.
The individual playground grows and grows, and therewith grows the dependence. Risks and unsteadiness, threat to divide the "today" from "yesterday" and to live the future to chance.
It's even chaotic reverberation.
Apart from differences of American and European cities, the development of cities into post modern "intercities", with their refine and their alienation in European cities is not sealed yet.
In a city you must try to remember it's "interior meaning" - and this interior meaning is still there in Europe, also if they are turning to musealism.
There is also a not-cultural and not-emotional danger in towns. First the ecologically harmful factors and on the other side the noxious factors.
There's the damage to suffocate in trash. Air- and environmental pollution have long-drown-out and spacious effects. For people and nature.
The emission of gas and dust from installations which are fix installed (like factories or industry) or moving (like airplanes or vehicles) brings a dilution of substances in the atmosphere.
This air pollutions are distributed because of the situation of weather and high of smoke stacks in the near and far (transmission). And so, they have different effects to human being, animals, plants and things.
Air pollutions could damage people's health in form of
Hyper sensibility (asthma bronchial and allergies)
Mutated (damages the next generation)
Cancer-causing (Lung-cancer, aso.)
Further there is the din, which stresses our health. He causes:
A higher production of stress-hormones
Hypertension
The frequency of breathing in heart is getting up
A change of the activity in the brain
Enlargement of pupils
You see, that living in a city could be very dangerous for people, and so there was a conference in Toronto (CAN) in 1998, to protect the worldwide climate.
They demanded a reduction of 20 percents of the CO2-emission until 2005, to arrive the so named "Toronto Destination",
Reduction subscriptions of energy, traffic, trash-industry, agriculture, have to be reduced. In Austria it is possible to arrive the "Toronto Destination".
The emission of toxic chemicals (FCKW is forbidden in industry-states since 1995) is responsible to it, that the ozone hole is getting bigger and bigger.
Bigger than ever is the hole above the Antarctic, which is responsible to the slow warming of the earth.
The ozone layer can be destroyed with brome or chloral and so there will be no more protection of the dangerous UV-rays.
In 1998 the hole in the ozone layer was more than 10 Mio km².
FINAL POINT OF VIEW
The United Nations say, that in 2005 every second human being would live in a city. The future of cities in the end of the 20th century was a hot discussed theme. The 20th century brings a lot of problems but also many hopes.
In our opinion we hope, that we can solve our environment problems.
THROW THE DICE AND BE HAPPY!
The original form of a town doesn't exist today. The opinion, that a town is formed of many abilities and is not severely regulated, demands many considerations.
